Available Rasters

This page provides access to the various rasters and grids that comprise the BERKELEY/PENN URBAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL MODELER’S DATAKIT. Each raster uses the same cell size (500 meters), extent and projection (Lambert’s Conformal Conic NAD83) making it possible to overlay and combine different layers.

Available rasters include: 
•    Municipal, county, metropolitan area, and state boundaries.
•    Census block and census tract boundaries and selected attributes, including net housing and population densities (blocks) and population, housing, and demographic data (tracts).
•    Boundaries of all federal lands, including national parks and monuments, national forests, Bureau of Land Management lands, and military facilities.
•    Elevation and slope data generated from the National Elevation Dataset (NED).
•    Comprehensive land cover data for 1992 and 2001 from the U.S. Geological Survey, including agriculture, forest, pasture, urban, and wetland locations.
•    Locations of all major water body polygons, including lakes and reservoirs.
•    Locations of lacaustrine, palustrine, and riverine wetlands from the National Wetlands Inventory.
Each raster is zipped (using WinZip 11) to save space. Info files are unique to each raster and are not shared. Users may click on the .zip listing to download and access each raster. To see what a raster will look like when opened in ArcMap, click on the .pdf Preview Map listing for each raster. For more information on each raster, including its date of compilation, a list of attribute data values, projection details, and links to the original source data, click on the .html Metadata listing. 
To insure spatial consistency, users are advised to first download and add the base raster of the 48 contiguous United States, and to set the Spatial Analysis raster extent and cell-size options accordingly.
